Principle of Hair transplant: The fundamental principle of hair transplant revolves around the resilience of hair in the donor area, typically located at the back of the scalp (occipital zone). Unlike the hair in other areas, these donor hairs are relatively unaffected by hormonal and genetic factors, which are the primary causes of hair loss in most patients. As a result, they demonstrate resistance to falling out due to genetic or hormonal influences. When transplanted to the recipient area, these hairs maintain their resistance and do not succumb to the same tendencies of loss.
Currently, in the field of hair transplantation, the two most prevalent techniques utilized for addressing androgenic alopecia in both male and female patients are Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) and Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT). These methods have become the cornerstone of hair restoration procedures, offering effective solutions for combating hair loss.
In hair restoration surgery, trained hair transplant surgeons remove hair follicles along with Hair roots and transfers them to other part of the scalp / balding areas to ensure growth. There are two main types:
FUE is a type of hair transplant surgery where the surgeon takes individual follicles from skin and implants them onto your hair deficient areas on scalp.
FUT is a type of hair transplant surgery where the surgeon takes a strip of skin along with hair follicles, then dissects hair follicles from this strip of skin and then trasnfers individual hair grafts or follicular units to hair deficient areas /bald areas on your scalp.
Details of these procedures are given in further on same page.
Hair Transplant is a very safe and reproducible procedure for hair restoration in male or female pattern hair loss or alopecia.

A healthy person with hair loss due to Hormonal (androgenic) or Genetic reasons and his / her hair fall has stabilized is the ideal candidate for hair transplant surgery. Hair transplant is aslo done for cases who have lost hairs on their scalp or face due to burn or trauma injury. It is also done in cases of Bear or moustache reconstruction when these areas are thin or have absent hairs
Our primary objective is to attain the utmost safety, effectiveness, and natural results in hair transplant procedures. When we mention safety, we refer to both the surgical procedure itself and the well-being of our patients' donor and recipient areas.
Ensuring the safety of the donor area involves avoiding overharvesting and promoting optimal healing with inconspicuous scarring. We prioritize techniques that preserve the donor area’s integrity and ensure it heals seamlessly.
Safety in the recipient area encompasses safeguarding the patient’s preexisting hair while ensuring the newly implanted hair blends seamlessly for a natural appearance. This includes meticulous attention to detail in graft placement, ensuring correct direction, angle orientation, and depth.
Experience the safest, most effective, and natural-looking hair transplants at our center, where patient well-being is our top priority.
The FUE (Follicular Unit Excision) technique, also known as follicular unit extraction, is a popular choice among patients for hair transplant procedures. In this technique, individual follicular units are meticulously harvested by the operating surgeon from the donor site at the back of the scalp. Unlike traditional methods, FUE does not require the removal of a skin piece, eliminating the need for stitches and resulting in a “stitch-less procedure."
Although FUE leaves multiple punctate spots in the donor area, they are typically inconspicuous. Hence, the term “scar-less hair transplant” is considered non-scientific by various national and international hair transplant societies. Recovery after FUE surgery is usually rapid and smooth.
Patients typically experience minor swelling on the forehead during the initial recovery period, which is a normal physiological response to the anesthesia solution’s gravity effect. This swelling is rare at our center due to advanced anesthesia techniques and surgical care. Medications are prescribed for the early post-operative period, and patients are advised to sprinkle normal saline solution on the recipient area to keep transplanted hair moist.
Surgical caps are provided to protect the operated site from environmental factors for the first few days. Dressing is usually removed within 48 hours, although the donor area may appear healed within 24 hours due to our surgical techniques. However, precautions are taken to ensure complete healing. Visible operative scars on the recipient area are uncommon, and any potential scars in the donor area depend on individual healing tendencies.
Following FUE surgery, patients experience a shedding phase for the first three months as the external shaft of newly implanted hair falls out. This is followed by the gradual growth of transplanted hairs as viable roots remain under the skin. Shock loss, temporary hair fall post-surgery, may occur but is rare at our center. Hair growth becomes increasingly visible over time, with near-complete results typically seen by the end of one year.
Throughout the recovery period, patients receive guidance on general hair care from their operating surgeon.
“Authentic Hair Transplant and Cosmetic Centre” is renowned as one of the best centers for FUE hair transplant surgery in Pune, India.
FUT (Follicular Unit Transfer) or strip surgery involves the removal of a long transverse piece of skin from the donor area on one side of the scalp to the other. The resulting defect is closed in layers, with the external skin layer being closed using a single running suture (stitch), which typically dissolves on its own within 15 to 21 days. From the harvested skin piece (strip), individual follicular units are dissected by the operating team and then transferred to the recipient area on the scalp.
It is a misconception that one technique is superior to the other. Both FUT and FUE techniques have their advantages. While some patients consider FUT inferior due to the involvement of stitches, this is not necessarily the case. FUT offers several advantages, including harvesting all hair from a permanent and safe donor area and inconspicuous scar healing when performed correctly in suitable patients. Additionally, FUT allows for harvesting a higher number of grafts from the donor area, making it particularly useful in cases requiring a large number of grafts. In female patients, FUT can prevent significant shaving in the donor area, and it also enables long hair (unshaven) transplant.
FUE, on the other hand, offers advantages such as being a stitch-less procedure, faster and more comfortable recovery, and avoiding a transverse cut scar in the donor area. Consequently, most patients opt for FUE. At Authentic Hair Transplant and Cosmetic Centre, the majority of surgeries are performed using the advanced FUE technique. However, Dr. Hitesh Laad and his team also perform FUT procedures in select patients with equal ease and successful outcomes.
Authentic Hair Transplant and Cosmetic Centre is recognized as one of the best centers in Pune, India, for hair transplant and restoration surgeries.
When there’s a greater demand for hair in the recipient area but a limited supply of hair grafts from the donor area, a combination of FUE and FUT techniques can be employed to meet the need for more hair.
It would be inaccurate to claim superiority of either FUE or FUT hair transplant procedures over the other, as many surgeons worldwide achieve good, stable results using either technique exclusively. Both procedures offer unique advantages, and patients should carefully consider them with the guidance of their treating surgeon to make decisions in their best interest.
Due to factors such as the absence of stitches (sutures), faster recovery, and the preference of patients, FUE hair transplant is the most commonly preferred and routinely performed technique at Authentic Hair Transplant and Cosmetic Centre.
The beard area is the second most common donor area after the back of the scalp (occipital region) for hair transplant procedures. In cases of larger grades of baldness, harvesting hair from the beard zone is often necessary to provide maximum coverage to the bald areas on the scalp. Despite being slightly thicker, beard hairs blend seamlessly with other scalp hairs and exhibit satisfactory growth on the scalp. Over time, beard hair undergoes changes that align more closely with scalp hair characteristics, a phenomenon known as the “Principle of Donor Area Dominance” in medical terms.
Following the beard zone, chest hair is prioritized and utilized for hair transplant procedures. In exceptional cases, the donor area can be extended to the abdomen and other parts of the body. Beard and chest hair are commonly utilized in cases of higher degrees of alopecia to achieve better coverage.
Body hair possesses unique growth characteristics and success rates. At Authentic Hair Transplant and Cosmetic Centre, your operating surgeon will provide comprehensive insights into the utility and limitations of body hair transplant based on factors such as density, thickness, and growth characteristics of your body hair.
DHI (Direct Hair Implantation) hair transplant is essentially a variation of the FUE technique, wherein hairs are extracted and implanted together or in small groups. This terminology may also indicate the use of implanters for hair graft insertion.
At Authentic Hair Transplant and Cosmetic Centre in Pune, all grafts are collected promptly, segregated into different groups, and stored in an appropriate solution at the proper temperature. They are categorized into groups of one, two, or three hair grafts for optimal utilization and are inserted back in a timely manner to minimize the time spent outside the body. This ensures maximum survival of all harvested grafts.
In some cases, the term DHI may refer to the usage of implanters for hair insertion purposes. Implanters come in various types such as Choi implanter and Keep implanter. Additionally, they may have sharp or blunt tips depending on the type of needle they carry. Blunt implanters are utilized for premade slits, while sharp ones are employed to create slits at the time of hair insertion.
A commonly asked question pertains to the most suitable technique for hair insertion during hair transplant procedures. Various methods exist, including the use of implanters and the more advanced “no root touch technique.” Traditionally, graft insertion involves using forceps to hold the grafts away from the roots.
Implanters offer certain advantages. They save time and facilitate quicker execution of the procedure. Additionally, they can prevent trauma to the hair root, particularly if the implantation team lacks experience or skill with more advanced techniques like the “no root touch technique.”
However, using implanters requires careful handling of grafts. One assistant inserts the graft into the implanter, while another transfers it to the implantation site. During insertion, the graft crosses the needle of the implanter, risking trauma. If the needle size and hair thickness are not compatible, hair roots may be damaged. Furthermore, proper alignment of the graft curvature with the natural hair flow on the scalp may be challenging. Inspection of the graft is compromised, as the inserting person cannot assess its quality and curvature.
It’s essential to note that we are not advocating for or against the use of implanters. The choice should be made by the operating team based on their comfort level and what suits the particular case best, ensuring the best possible surgical outcome.
To overcome these challenges, our surgical team at Authentic Hair Transplant and Cosmetic Centre utilizes both implanters and the “no root touch technique” with ease, prioritizing the best possible outcome for your hair transplant procedure.
The “no root touch technique” for hair insertion is particularly noteworthy. In this method, the operating team holds the hair grafts from their external shaft side, avoiding contact with the root altogether. The root is inserted into a pre-made slit directly, ensuring an atraumatic insertion process. The surgeon retains full control to manage the curvature of the graft during insertion, crucial for a satisfactory outcome. While this technique reduces graft handling by team members and minimizes trauma or friction compared to implanters, it is more time-consuming and requires skill.
Each surgeon may have their preferences to ensure the best interests of their patients, considering the unique advantages and limitations of each technique. At our center, our surgical team adeptly employs both the “implanter technique” and the “no root touch technique” to optimize the surgical outcome of your hair transplant procedure.
ARTAS is one such system used in robotic hair transplant procedures. In this method, the planning for the recipient zone and implantation is carried out by the surgeon or operating team, similar to the process in FUE techniques. However, the harvesting of hair follicular units is conducted by an advanced robotic arm. It’s important to note that while the harvesting process is automated, the implantation of hair in the recipient zone remains a manual process. It’s worth mentioning that the success rate of non-robotic hair transplant procedures is comparable to that of robotic procedures when performed by experienced experts.
At Authentic Hair Transplant & Cosmetic Center, the majority of cases are performed using FUE surgery or its variants based on the patient’s clinical condition and preferences. Additionally, we perform hair transplant surgeries using the FUT technique with equal proficiency, where indicated and necessary for optimal surgical outcomes.
Our board-certified hair transplant and cosmetic surgeon conduct a comprehensive assessment of your scalp qualities and requirements. Factors such as skin mobility, thickness, hair quality, density, and future possibilities are evaluated, along with existing medical conditions and blood parameters.
We also offer long hair transplant or unshaven hair transplant procedures, where long hair is harvested and implanted. This technique provides patients with a preview of their final outcome and is particularly useful for performing unshaven FUE in cases such as female patients. However, it’s important to note that this procedure is more time-consuming and technically demanding. High numbers of grafts may compromise the final surgical outcome if performed by an inexperienced team.
On the day of surgery, the hairline is marked and discussed with the patient. Preparation of both donor and recipient areas with antiseptic solutions is carried out. Allergy testing is conducted, and vitals are checked. The stages of surgery are explained again to the patient.
Pre-made slits are created to ensure the correct direction, angle, orientation, and depth for a natural density and appearance. These pre-made slits optimize the utilization of available grafts and reduce the out-of-body time of hairs once collected.
Grafts are harvested based on the quality and thickness of donor area hair. Advanced disposable punches and equipment are used to ensure complete graft harvesting with one, two, three, or more grafts. This maximizes donor area utilization and the number of hairs per graft.
Grafts are inspected and segregated under magnification into single, double, triple, or more hair grafts. They are stored in the appropriate solution and temperature in a time-bound manner.
Grafts are inserted back into the recipient area in a time-bound manner. With pre-made slits, insertion is fast, atraumatic, and at the correct direction, angle, depth, and density. This reduces the out-of-body time of hair, improving survival and surgical outcomes.
Surgeons' techniques may vary, but the skill of the operating surgeon determines the surgical outcome more than the technique itself. Focus on previous operative results rather than the technique adopted when making surgery decisions, as the final result matters most. At Authentic, hair insertion is performed with both implanters and the No root touch technique with equal ease, and patients can choose their preferred method.
Minimizing the out-of-body time of hair is crucial during insertion. Hair is harvested and inserted back in a time-bound manner, stored in different groups, and preserved in PRP and other solutions at the appropriate temperature.
Post-operative patients at Authentic experience minimal pain due to skilled anesthesia administration. Forehead swelling is rarely noticed due to artistic anesthesia techniques. Dressing on the scalp is removed by the 3rd day or earlier, and post-op medicines are provided for around 5 days.
Detailed instructions on dietary, sleep, exercise, scalp care, and other post-op care are explained. Patients return to the center on the 3rd day for dressing change and receive a demonstration of head wash. Hair enters the shedding phase for the first 3 months post-op, followed by the growth phase starting from the 4th month. Hair growth tablets, solutions, minoxidil, finasteride treatments, and post-op PRP treatments are prescribed as part of standard post-op care.
At Authentic, we adhere to the Gold standard technique of FUE hair transplant, which is recommended by national and international standards for its quality, safety, and effectiveness. This technique prioritizes the safety of hair grafts throughout the entire hair transplant process, including extraction, preservation, and insertion. Unlike other techniques that focus solely on graft insertion and overlook the importance of extraction and preservation, our approach ensures comprehensive care at every step.
Our international protocol includes the use of implanters for hair insertion, along with the more advanced “no root touch technique” for selected cases.
The use of Choi implanters for hair insertion involves pen-like devices with hollow needles attached, along with a plunger. Our physicians or assisting team carefully insert the graft into the hollow needle using forceps and a specialized safe technique. The surgeon then inserts the needle at the recipient site, ensuring correct direction, angle, orientation, and depth before delivering the graft by pressing the plunger. Choi implanters come in different sizes to accommodate various graft sizes.
In the “no root touch technique,” the graft is handled from the skin side using special forceps, making it a highly atraumatic approach. This technique offers several advantages over implanters, including minimizing the risk of root friction during insertion and providing the operating surgeon with complete control over the curvature and inspection of the graft. Additionally, it reduces the need for multiple graft handling, enhancing efficiency and aesthetics. However, this technique requires more skill and time to perform.
Both techniques can yield equally good results when executed appropriately, and the choice between them depends on the surgeon’s expertise and the patient’s individual case. Therefore, patients need not worry about which technique to opt for, as our operating surgeons are proficient in both methods. At Authentic, we perform hair insertion using both implanters and the no root touch technique with equal ease, ensuring optimal outcomes for our patients.

The cost of hair transplant surgery in Pune depends on:
Recovery after FUE hair transplant surgery is usually very fast and smooth.
Your dressing is removed after 48 hours of Hair transplant. In most of our patients we observe that healing is completed within 24 hours due to the surgical technique we adopt and with the use of appropriate size of punches at our center.
Minor swelling may be present on the forehead during the initial few days of your recovery. This is due to the gravity effect on anesthesia solution used during surgery. This is a normal physiological condition. There is nothing to bother about it at all. This swelling, if present, is not associated with any pain or discomfort. This is observed very rarely at our center due to advanced techniques of giving anesthesia and the surgical care we provide.
You need to take some medicines in the early post-operative period for 5 days or so.
You are also suggested to sprinkle normal saline solution on the recipient area a few times in a day to keep transplanted hair moist.
You are provided with surgical caps to keep your operated site protected from environment, dust or pollution. This is to be worn for the first 5 days or so.
Your dressing is removed the next day or two days after surgery, by that time your donor area is healed completely. With the appropriate size of punches, usually the donor area seems to be healed in 24 hours only but some micro lesions are still present, so it is better to keep it covered for a minimum of 48 hours or so as a precautionary measure. There are no visible operative scars on the recipient area. Appearance of punctate scars or Hypo pigmented dots in donor areas is a rare possibility. This depends on multiple factors including your healing tendency. Your operating surgeon will be able to comment on this after examining you.
For the first 3 months after FUE hair transplant surgery, there is a shedding phase, in which the external shaft of newly implanted hair falls out. All the transplanted roots are viable and live under the skin. Gradually these hair roots enter into the growth phase and you start observing growth of the transplanted hairs.
Shock loss is temporary hair fall after Hair transplant surgery. This happens secondary to the effect of surgery. In this condition some hair (non-transplanted hair) enters into the resting phase or falling phase after hair transplant. After a period of around three months these hair return back to the growth phase and get restored on your scalp. With better technique and advancements this effect is no longer seen commonly. At the Authentic Hair Transplant and Cosmetic Centre this is a very rare condition to be observed. Consult your Hair transplant surgeon to understand it in detail.
Usually only 30 % hair growth is visible at the end of 3 months. Nearly 50 % to 60% of hair growth is visible by the end of 6 months. Around 70 to 80 % growth of transplanted hair is visible in 9 months and you can see a near complete result nearly by the end of 1 year of your FUE Hair transplant Surgery. There can be individual variations in visible growth pattern depending on hair quality of donor area and surgical management of the patient. Some hair growth may be seen even upto 15 months or so.
In case of FUT Surgery: suture lione generally heals in 7 to 10 days of time. you can start washimng heads from 5 th day itself once clearance is given by operating surgeon. With advance techniques of closure, we call it Trichophytic closure, there is hardly any scar visible at operated site. and with minimal hair length in donor area No scar is visible. that is the fantastic aspect of this Surgery.
Your operating surgeon guides you throughout your recovery period for general Hair care.
